The 2027 course

Everything happens around the Lac du Moutchic. The M swims 1.5 km in the lake, rides the pine-forest roads (43 km according to the race page) and then runs two 5 km laps, with aid stations at km 2 and 5. The L swims 1.9 km, rides two laps (82 km, aid stations at km 18 and 57) and then runs three 7 km laps, with aid stations at km 4 and 7.

What the race asks of your training

A build-up in the depths of winter

For a race on 24 April, a twelve-week build-up starts in late January. Rides are often done in the cold or on a home trainer: keeping one long ride outdoors each week, whenever the weather allows, gets you used to the position and the wind.

Still-cold water in late April

The rules make wetsuits mandatory between 12 and 16 °C; below 12 °C, the swim is replaced by a 5 km run for the M and 7 km for the L. Swimming in open water a few times in the spring, in your wetsuit, gets you used to the cold and to wave starts, which the pool does not train.

A bike leg in the pine forest, no drafting

The bike leg uses the Médoc pine-forest roads, open to traffic, and drafting is banned. The organisers publish no climbing figure. Blocks of 15 to 20 minutes at race pace in the aero position, on rolling terrain, prepare you for this kind of course.

Cut-offs to know

On the M, you must leave transition by 9:30 am to start the bike, and by 10:50 am to start the run. On the L, these limits are 9:20 am and 12:50 pm. Weekly bike-to-run bricks late in the build-up help you handle the transitions well.

Why this plan works

Science-based periodisation

Base → build → specific → taper, with a recovery week every 3 to 4 weeks. Load goes up, but never two hard weeks in a row without a breather.

Paces, not vague feelings

Every session has target zones (pace, HR) computed from your MAS or a reference performance. A MAS test is built into the plan if you don't know yours.

Three disciplines, one load

Swim, bike and run are planned together: brick sessions, key sessions spread out, and a coherent total load week after week.

A plan that listens

After each session you rate how it felt (RPE). Too hard? The plan eases what follows. Skipped a session? It reschedules or absorbs it.

On your watch

On Garmin with the Endu app, on COROS by direct sync: the guided workout shows up on your wrist, step by step.

Frequently asked questions

When is the 2027 Lacanau triathlon?
On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April 2027, at the Lac du Moutchic: the M and the aquathlons on Saturday, the L on Sunday. The 2026 edition was held on 2 and 3 May.
When does registration for the 2027 Lacanau triathlon open?
Registration is open on Klikego: first for FFTri licence holders, then for everyone since 16 October 2026 at noon. Prices go up by €10 on 1 January 2027.
Do you need a wetsuit?
It is mandatory if the water is between 12 and 16 °C, allowed from 16 to 24.5 °C and banned above. In late April, expect cool water.
Where does the Lacanau triathlon start?
At the Lac du Moutchic, in Lacanau, where transition and bib collection are also located. The first M wave starts on Saturday at 8 am.
Triathlon de Lacanau: how many weeks of preparation?
For an athlete at intermediate level, Endu builds a 15-week preparation. If your race is closer, the plan compresses phases while keeping the taper; if it's further away, it lengthens the preparation, and when the gap is large the preparation starts right away, gently and at your current volume, before building up.
Is this plan well built?
Pass at Endu’s plan check, the same as for any plan: 19 of 19 checks passed. A 15-week build (recommended minimum: 8); a longest run never more than 8% above the previous month’s; 83% of the time at easy effort; a taper cutting volume by 66% in race week. The rules and their sources are public on endu.fr/en/controle-technique.
How many sessions per week?
This example has 5 sessions per week. You choose 4 to 7 training days and the exact days (e.g. Tue, Thu, Sat, Sun): the plan sticks to them.
I'm a beginner, is this plan for me?
The plan adapts to your declared level (beginner to semi-pro): starting volume, progression and intensity change. Endu also offers a "Discovery" mode without a race to build a base first.
Can I follow sessions on my watch?
Yes, on Garmin and COROS. On Garmin, the Endu app (Connect IQ Store) shows today’s session and starts it as a guided workout. On COROS, link your account from your profile: your running, trail and cycling sessions land in the watch calendar. Other brands are not supported yet.
How much does it cost?
14-day free trial, then €7.99/month with no commitment or €59.88/year (€4.99/month). Unlimited objectives and sports.
