The 2026 course
Start in Bertholène, in the Aveyron valley, at 6 am. The course reaches the Lot valley at Saint-Côme-d’Olt (km 23.3, first aid station), passes Bonneval Abbey and the La Vitarelle water point (km 43), then climbs onto the Aubrac to Laguiole (km 55). It then crosses the plateau via La Paouade to the Buron des Bouals at Aubrac (km 78), before dropping down via the Lacessat waterfall (km 90) and Saint-Martin-de-Montbon (km 100) to the finish in Saint-Geniez-d’Olt. Tracks, trails and paths, with less than 5% tarmac, and two Natura 2000 areas.
What the race asks of your training
More descent than climbing
3,500 m of climbing and 3,700 m of descent: you start in the Aveyron valley, climb onto the Aubrac via Laguiole, then drop down to the Lot valley. Long hilly runs, hill sessions and repeated controlled descents prepare your quads for the final 30 km, mostly downhill.
Cut-offs all day long
In 2026, you had to leave Saint-Côme-d’Olt (km 23.3) before 9:50 am, Laguiole (km 55) before 4:30 pm, the Buron des Bouals (km 78) before 9 pm, the Lacessat waterfall (km 90) before 11 pm and Saint-Martin-de-Montbon (km 100) before 1 am. The first one, 3 h 50 after the start, means setting off at an easy aerobic pace without hanging about.
Long legs in semi-self-sufficiency
Full aid stations at Saint-Côme-d’Olt, Laguiole, Aubrac (Buron des Bouals) and the finish, a single water point in between at La Vitarelle (km 43), and no cups: a reusable cup is mandatory. The rules stress that there is no water in the middle of the legs. Train with a loaded pack, test your drink and food on long runs and get used to drinking on the move.
The Aubrac in April
On the Aubrac plateau, the rules anticipate fog, heavy rain, cold and snow: warm kit (waterproof hooded jacket, second layer, long tights, hat, gloves) can be made mandatory, announced three days before. The last runners finish in the dark, by headtorch. A few long runs in bad weather with that kit beat discovering it on race day.

Why this plan works
Science-based periodisation
Base → build → specific → taper, with a recovery week every 3 to 4 weeks. Load goes up, but never two hard weeks in a row without a breather.
Paces, not vague feelings
Every session has target zones (pace, HR) computed from your MAS or a reference performance. A MAS test is built into the plan if you don't know yours.
Elevation as the central variable
Weekly climbing volume, long hilly runs, downhill technique and power-hiking for ultras: a trail plan is not a road plan with bumps.
A plan that listens
After each session you rate how it felt (RPE). Too hard? The plan eases what follows. Skipped a session? It reschedules or absorbs it.
On your watch
On Garmin with the Endu app, on COROS by direct sync: the guided workout shows up on your wrist, step by step.

Frequently asked questions
- When is the 2027 Trans Aubrac?
- On Saturday 17 April 2027, according to the organiser’s entry page. The Ultra starts at 6 am from Bertholène; in 2026, the race took place on Saturday 18 April.
- Can you still enter?
- As of 10 October 2026, the Ultra is still open (84% of places taken), the relay is full and the Mazuc, the Capuchadou and the 13 km are full with a waiting list. Bibs cannot be transferred.
- Are the GPX tracks published?
- Only two days before the race: the course crosses private land. Having the track on a GPS watch is part of the mandatory kit.
- Trans Aubrac: how many weeks of preparation?
- For an athlete at intermediate level, Endu builds a 25-week preparation. If your race is closer, the plan compresses phases while keeping the taper; if it's further away, it lengthens the preparation, and when the gap is large the preparation starts right away, gently and at your current volume, before building up.
- Is this plan well built?
- Pass at Endu’s plan check, the same as for any plan: 16 of 16 checks passed. A 25-week build (recommended minimum: 20); a longest run never more than 10% above the previous month’s; volume rising at most 8% from one week to the next; 96% of the time at easy effort; the longest session 3 weeks before the race; a taper cutting volume by 67% in race week. The rules and their sources are public on endu.fr/en/controle-technique.
- How many sessions per week?
- This example has 4 sessions per week. You choose 4 to 7 training days and the exact days (e.g. Tue, Thu, Sat, Sun): the plan sticks to them.
- I'm a beginner, is this plan for me?
- The plan adapts to your declared level (beginner to semi-pro): starting volume, progression and intensity change. Endu also offers a "Discovery" mode without a race to build a base first.
- Can I follow sessions on my watch?
- Yes, on Garmin and COROS. On Garmin, the Endu app (Connect IQ Store) shows today’s session and starts it as a guided workout. On COROS, link your account from your profile: your running, trail and cycling sessions land in the watch calendar. Other brands are not supported yet.
- How much does it cost?
- 14-day free trial, then €7.99/month with no commitment or €59.88/year (€4.99/month). Unlimited objectives and sports.
