The 2026 course
Start on the island of Vassivière. The Half crosses five islands, dry heather moorland, floating bridges, peat bogs and boardwalks on stilts. According to the course sheet updated in January 2026, the aid stations are at km 11 (Bois & Nature), km 17 (Broussas) and km 26 (car park), and the longest run section, over 8 km, comes near the end.
What the race asks of your training
Warm water, sometimes without a wetsuit
The organisers expect water between 20 and 24 °C, and wetsuits are banned above 22 °C. So train to swim without one too, in your shoes, with paddles and a pull buoy: without the buoyancy of neoprene, your legs drag more.
A lot of transitions
13 swims and 14 run sections on the Half, some of them only 100 m long according to the course sheet. Time is won getting in and out of the water: sessions that link swimming and running without stopping, with your race-day kit, are the most useful.
A long but rolling run
About 500 m of climbing over 30.6 km of running, on trails, moorland and boardwalks: a rolling profile, far from mountain terrain. Long easy runs on paths matter more than hill work, with a section of more than 8 km near the end.
Generous cut-offs
Apart from the Sprint, the organisers set cut-offs based on roughly 8 min/km running and 3:30 per 100 m swimming, published before the race. The Half takes between 4h and 7h10 according to their estimates.

Why this plan works
Science-based periodisation
Base → build → specific → taper, with a recovery week every 3 to 4 weeks. Load goes up, but never two hard weeks in a row without a breather.
Paces, not vague feelings
Every session has target zones (pace, HR) computed from your MAS or a reference performance. A MAS test is built into the plan if you don't know yours.
Transitions and gear
Swim / run transition sessions with paddles and pull-buoy, so your body gets used to switching effort and running wet.
A plan that listens
After each session you rate how it felt (RPE). Too hard? The plan eases what follows. Skipped a session? It reschedules or absorbs it.
On your watch
On Garmin with the Endu app, on COROS by direct sync: the guided workout shows up on your wrist, step by step.

Frequently asked questions
- When is the 2027 Lac de Vassivière swimrun?
- The organisers announce June 2027, with no exact date yet. The 2026 edition took place on 20 and 21 June, with the Half starting on Sunday 21 June at 8:30 am on the island of Vassivière.
- Can you race solo?
- Yes on the Experience and the Sprint, which are raced solo or in pairs; the Night is pairs only. For the Classic and the Half, the page does not say yet: check when registration opens.
- What kit is allowed?
- Pull buoy, paddles, neoprene hood and gloves, tether and safety buoy. Mandatory: the bib and swim cap provided, goggles, a whistle without a pea, a foil blanket, and a wetsuit if the water is below 16 °C. Banned: fins, snorkels, buoyancy aids over 100 × 30 cm, and wetsuits above 22 °C.
- Swimrun Lac de Vassivière: how many weeks of preparation?
- For an athlete at intermediate level, Endu builds a 19-week preparation. If your race is closer, the plan compresses phases while keeping the taper; if it's further away, it lengthens the preparation, and when the gap is large the preparation starts right away, gently and at your current volume, before building up.
- Is this plan well built?
- Pass at Endu’s plan check, the same as for any plan: 19 of 19 checks passed. A 19-week build (recommended minimum: 12); a longest run never more than 6% above the previous month’s; volume rising at most 7% from one week to the next; 92% of the time at easy effort; the longest session 3 weeks before the race; a taper cutting volume by 71% in race week. The rules and their sources are public on endu.fr/en/controle-technique.
- How many sessions per week?
- This example has 5 sessions per week. You choose 5 to 7 training days and the exact days (e.g. Tue, Thu, Sat, Sun): the plan sticks to them.
- I'm a beginner, is this plan for me?
- The plan adapts to your declared level (beginner to semi-pro): starting volume, progression and intensity change. Endu also offers a "Discovery" mode without a race to build a base first.
- Can I follow sessions on my watch?
- Yes, on Garmin and COROS. On Garmin, the Endu app (Connect IQ Store) shows today’s session and starts it as a guided workout. On COROS, link your account from your profile: your running, trail and cycling sessions land in the watch calendar. Other brands are not supported yet.
- How much does it cost?
- 14-day free trial, then €7.99/month with no commitment or €59.88/year (€4.99/month). Unlimited objectives and sports.
